About phenol peels

There are a number of ways to treat facial wrinkles but phenol peels are widely considered the gold-standard. The healing time and post-treatment redness is often shorter with phenol peel compared to laser treatment. Phenol peels are particularly effective in treating wrinkles around the mouth (perioral rhytids).

Procedure and recovery

Phenol peels are performed under mild oral sedation and local anaesthetic as a daycase procedure at The Karri Clinic. Post-operative pain is minimal and skin healing is usually complete by 7-10 days, revealing new, smooth, clear skin.  As skin thickness varies on the face, Mr Karri has devised a unique approach in which a different strength phenol peel is used on each part of the face.

Phenol peels and skin whitening

Patients often worry about the possibility of skin whitening following phenol peels, but this effect is directly related to the depth of the peel and not the specific peeling agent. The depth of the peel is directly related to the small but highly significant amount of Croton oil used in the formula.

When properly applied in the correctly chosen patient, phenol peel has proven to be better than any other resurfacing method, both for its capacity to eliminate wrinkles in a uniform manner and relatively low cost.
